Single Stock (Volatility) Trading Pauses

27 Jan 2011

NYSE and NYSE Amex have added functionality, similar to that of NYSE Arca, that is designed to prevent an erroneous execution from triggering an unnecessary volatility trading pause (VTP) in securities included in the Single Stock Trade Pause pilot (all securities in the S&P 500 and Russell 1000) under Exchange Rule 80C. This new functionality provides that a single execution priced at or higher than the 10% Threshold Move from the last consolidated sale will no longer trigger a VTP. Beginning on January 28, 2011, NYSE and NYSE Amex systems pause trading in a pilot stock only after three breaches of the Threshold Move within the preceding five-minutes.
